Information & Resources To Help Seniors And Their Families

As part of our commitment to truly Making A Difference in the lives of our residents and the seniors of our community, Grace Village is pleased to launch a series of seniors-oriented information seminars in support of our own residents, their families and the seniors of the community.  This series will be presented in English - French seminars can be planned based on demand - in partnership with a variety of key community resources. We will benefit from ongoing participation by Wade Lynch of Bishop's University and the Bishop's Seniors Academy for Lifelong Learning (SALL) where he is Director. You can use the form below to submit questions or suggest topics of interest for future seminars.

Unless otherwise indicated, these seminars will be held at 6:30PM on the last Tuesday of each month, in Grace Village's Grand Hall. There is no charge but if the seminar is of value to you we would appreciate a small donation from each attendee following the seminar, e.g. $5, to cover the costs of the refreshments and facility cleanup.

English Language Legal Resources For Seniors / Seniors' Families

This seminar will be presented by a lawyer from the not-for-profit organization Éducaloi, who specializes in "Plain Language" legal documentation.  Éducaloi is Montréal-based and is sponsored in part by the Ministère de Justice du Québec and the Department of Justice Canada.

This organization provides extremely well written English language publications and informational workshops on legal issues of interest to seniors and seniors' families.  Their specialist will give an overview of the range of resources they provide as well as a workshop covering two specific topics from among their offering that includes Powers of Attorney, Protection Mandates, Public Curator, Seniors and Financial Fraud, Protective Supervision, Advance Medical Directives and others. The choice of topics will be finalized and announced shortly.

Aging And Dental Health  **CANCELLED DUE TO CORONAVIRUS PRECAUTIONS**

The objective of this seminar is to clarify the main oral health challenges faced by seniors in caring for their teeth. The focus will be on good dental care practices, disease prevention methods. and overall dental health as key components of an overall seniors' health plan.

Dr Marc Boutin obtained his diploma in Dental Medicine from Laval University in 1999. In 2011 he completed a Master’s degree in the field of occlusion and temporomandibular joint disorders from Donau University in Austria. He is currently in private practice in Sherbrooke, Qc in association with his wife Dre Geneviève Langlois.

Psychological Benefits of Exercise

"Mens Sana in Corpore Sano"

This presentation will explore how scientific research has investigated the effects of physical exercise on health, cognition and, particularly on psychological well-being. Results with different age groups will be discussed, with specific attention to seniors.

The presentation will be given by Stuart McKelvie, Ph.D., of the Bishop's University Department of Psychology.

Refresher:  Financial / Tax Planning For Seniors

Due to popular request we will present a review and update of the highly appreciated Oct. 2019 seminar that clearly and simply described key investment alternatives and their respective tax and yield advantages, in preparation for the end of the year and tax time!

This update will again be given by Peter Provencher, a certified financial planner with a heart for seniors who is a member of our Grace Village Care Foundation.

Reflections on Dance Movement Therapy

Dance Movement Therapy recognizes the moving body as the centre of the human experience, and that body and mind are in constant reciprocal interaction. It goes beyond simply dancing. DMT uses dance and movement to promote insight, integration and well-being.
